Built on vision. Driven by excellence.
A trusted, diversified Ethiopian enterprise connecting local producers to global markets.

From a border town to global markets
From humble beginnings in trade, a cross-border journey began with a clear vision and evolved into a trusted enterprise serving local and international markets. Decades of steady growth have shaped a business grounded in integrity, resilience and an unwavering commitment to quality and long-term partnership.
Beginning in 1980 with traditional trade routes across the Ethiopian–Eritrean border, the enterprise has grown through decades of resilience into a multi-sector group spanning agricultural exports, industrial supply, edible-oil manufacturing, logistics and hospitality.
Our impact →From a border town to global markets
Nearly four decades of resilience, reinvention and growth.
Early Trade Activities
In August 1980, Mehari Redaei began trading tomatoes, onions, wheat and beverages. The goods were transported using traditional methods — specifically by donkey — from Adigrat and Senafe to Zalambessa.
Legal Registration
After four years of trading, Mehari Redaei formally reestablished the business in 1984, transitioning it into a legally recognized enterprise, officially registered with a business license in the Tigray Region in the strategically located border town of Zalambessa.
Cross-Border Trade Expansion
The business exported agricultural commodities such as corn, teff, pulses and coffee to Eritrea, and imported consumer goods including detergent, chewing gum and wheat flour sold in local Ethiopian markets — a significant phase of growth built on a consistent exchange of goods.
The Badme War
The outbreak of the Ethiopia–Eritrea War turned Zalambessa into a frontline war zone. After a total loss of property and assets, Mr. Mehari Redaei was forcibly displaced, yet survived and was determined to rebuild in the face of adversity.
A Fresh Start in Southern Ethiopia
Mr. Mehari Redaei shifted operations to Addis Ababa and expanded into Ethiopia's southern regions — Mizan Teferi, Mizan Aman, Yirgacheffe and Jimma — laying the groundwork for rebuilding the business.
Domestic Spice & Coffee Trade
Operating from Addis Ababa, the business sourced turmeric, coffee, ginger, cardamom and other spices from southern Ethiopia, distributing to Addis Ababa, Gondar, Bahir Dar and Mekelle — building deeper market connections for future expansion.
Value Addition & Export Success
Mehari Redaei Import & Export exported large volumes of agro-commodities to Sudan — coffee, horse beans, timber, ginger, turmeric, black cumin, onion and garlic — averaging 6.5 million USD in annual exports, and became a leading importer of salt, exercise books, laundry soap and onions.
Expansion & Export Milestones
The company purchased a modern warehouse in Kaliti and constructed additional storage. It became the first exporter of green mung bean, soybean and peanut to China, and millet to Canada, and received a prestigious quality award in Paris.
Leading Trade & Agro-Processing
Mehari Redaei and his sons built a prominent enterprise across East Africa and international markets — a key importer of stationery, timber, chemicals and rebar, and a major exporter of oilseeds, pulses and coffee — establishing a 40,000 m² oil processing factory.
Manufacturing & Value Addition
The group established a coffee processing unit in Addis Ababa and commissioned an oil refinery designed to process up to 150,000 liters of edible oil, focused on sunflower and soybean oils, and announced plans for a foundation to give back to society.
